Tips on Tuesday / Floss + Needle

Hi,

Here's a little tip for threading floss on an embroidery needle.

Collect your tools:
Embroidery Floss (I'm using six strands of DMC)
Embroidery Needle (I like a somewhat large but thin eye)

STEP ONE:
Loop your Floss snugly around you finger with a 2-4 inch tail.

STEP TWO:
Slip the eye end of the needle under the loop and make it tight to the needle.

STEP THREE:
Pinch the tight loop between your finger tips. Make sure that the two tails are not overlapping so that the loop is as narrow as possible.

STEP FOUR:
Slip the needle eye over the loop. This can take some slight persuasion with six strands but it is very easy with four or less strands. Just make sure you keep all your strands neat and tight.

STEP FIVE:
Pull your loop through until the floss is well seated in the needle eye and then free one end.

THE BIG FINISH:
There you go, you are ready to stitch.

Thank you a bunch for visiting my blog!

  1. That is a great tip. I wear contacts but also have to use "readers" for my close work, and threading that embroidery thread (or any thread) is the bane of my sewing existence. I haven't had any projects that required the entire 6 strands, but I tried it, and it took a couple of attempts but by golly it works!

    1. Thanks for trying it out. Thankfully, my up close vision defies my age but I couldn't recognize my own family in a small room without my glasses. I thread like a champ but I have never been able to figure out that finger rolling thread knotting thingy.
